Step 1: Designing the Perfect Shoe
Design is at the heart of everything we do. Our team draws inspiration from the latest fashion trends, as well as timeless classics and our best sellers. We sometimes start with digital renders or pulling samples of sheepskin, braids, thread and heels together to see if they complement each other. But the best thing about Susie’s, is YOU can be the designer! I’m super excited our new website has launched so you can use our customise tool to check out what your designs will look like ahead of ordering.
Step 2: Selecting Premium Materials
Quality materials are essential to creating durable and comfortable Boots and Slippers. We source the finest Sheepskin from British sheep, durable leathers and suedes for our heels and have gathered much of our braids from around the world. Each material is chosen not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for its strength and sustainability. We believe in using eco-friendly options whenever possible to minimize our environmental impact, we’re trying to source Welsh sheepskin, with the potential to use skins from a local farm, meaning our carbon footprint for the shoe uppers will be within a mile! Not many can claim that!
Step 3: Cutting and Patterns
Once the design is finalized and the materials are selected, our skilled craftspeople get to work. The cutting process involves precision and expertise, our pattern pieces have been mastered over the last 45 years to ensure the boots and slippers form to your feet perfectly, offering support, comfort and durability. We can also offer a tailor-made service if our standard sizing won’t be sufficient for you at an additional charge.
Step 4: Assembly and Stitching
Assembly is where the magic happens. Our experienced shoemakers meticulously stitch and assemble each component by hand. This step requires a keen eye for detail and a steady hand to ensure every seam is perfect. We take pride in the craftsmanship of our shoes, knowing that each pair is built to last. One the uppers are constructed and the midsoles sewn, the pairs of shoes head down to the soling workshop to have the outer sole glued with specialist ovens, sanders and soling equipment.
Step 5: Quality Control
Quality control is a critical part of our process. Before any shoe leaves our workshop, it undergoes a rigorous inspection. We check for any imperfections, ensuring that every pair meets our high standards. Our goal is to deliver shoes that not only look great but also provide unmatched comfort and durability.
I hope you love wearing our shoes as much as we love making them.
